life is a gift like fresh cut flowers.
(I haven't been sure how to write this post for a while now. As such, it's very disjointed. Please bear with me.)

It's been a rougher couple of weeks. Last Friday, May 15th (incidentally the day BP re-released), we found out my grandma is going to be passing away pretty soon.

Yeah. I don't really know how to process it either.

My week two weeks ago was filled with hospital trips: if my mom was going, so was I. I only didn't make it once. The first time I saw her, she wasn't very coherent and it was scary. Thankfully, due to some steroids to help reduce the swelling in her brain (she has four brain tumors...), she's been much more herself.

I haven't seen her for a week, but we'll be going to see her again soon. It's been hard, because while on the one hand it's nice to be able to say goodbye, there is so much pressure to make every moment profound, just in case it is your last one.

She's just too young, at least it feels that way, and that's what I keep coming back to. The unfairness of it all. This isn't right.

I know eventually it will be easier. But I can't even fathom the idea of a life without my grandma in it. I love her so much.

Please be praying for me and my family.

when your heart releases, you won't fall to pieces,
you'll let these old diseases lie
and your heart releases, you won't fall to pieces
and your breath comes crashing in
like perfect porcelain

explanation for the title: when i found out, i turned on jon foreman on spotify. (yeah, jon foreman from switchfoot. he's done a few solo albums in his spare time.) his song broken from the start was playing. in that song, there's a line--"life is a gift like fresh cut roses." that line has stuck with me.

Beautiful People Is Back!

Beautiful People Is Back!
Hello friends!

As I write this, Hall of Fame is playing on my iPod, I'm exhausted, and it is precisely 12:31 AM.

However, I have something much more important to share with you today!

As some of you know, a few years back Georgie Penn and I started a blog thing for writers titled Beautiful People. Every month we'd post ten questions for you to answer about your characters. The purpose was to help you get to know your characters better.

Due to insane life circumstances, Beautiful People was put on indefinite hiatus, which made it come to a halt. It's been about two years since we stopped, and after doing my BP post for Kess, I started missing it. A lot.

All that to say...? I'm sure you may have figured out where this was going already.

Ready for this?

And now for the details!

Georgie and I can no longer host it together because Georgie is crazy-busy working, and she also doesn't have internet at her apartment. Because of this, I wondered who I could find to be my co-host. Why, Cait from Notebook Sisters, of course! (She kindly agreed.)

We've been bursting with excitement to announce this, and we've been plotting together for a few weeks now as well. The general format of BP will remain the same, but as you can see we're rebooting the graphics, some of which is still in the works!

But back to the 10 questions every month. That's where you come in. We need you to submit questions! If you have any questions off of the top of your head, or any questions that have worked especially well for you in character development in the past, please leave them in a comment on this post, or Cait's blog post, and we'll do our best to work them in! You can also email them to us as well. (Here, and here.)

The tentative date for the first round of Beautiful People is June 5th! Mark it down, and spread the word!

Don't forget to check out Cait's post about Beautiful People here. Her post also contains our shiny new FAQ--with much thanks to Cait for helping to polish it up!

And now, stay tuned and send us any and all questions you have! We can't wait to get started!

strawberry avalanche, please crash over me

strawberry avalanche, please crash over me

a spark soaring down through the pouring rain,
restoring life to to the lifehouse

May's here! April was a long, busy month, so I'm excited for things to calm down and return to normal again.

I ate strawberries today, which remind me just how close summer is. I'm also breaking more and more into the summer clothing, including the long maxi skirt I wore practically all summer. (Seriously, best fashion choice I ever made.)

I've also been writing a bit more than usual (aka, the usual being none). I was referred to myWriteClub, which allows you to set writing goals and have a wordcount (or page count, or whatever) bar, just like during NaNo except for the rest of the year! Seriously, I highly recommend it. If you sign up, add me! I'm mountainfireflower.

In other news, I listened to Beautiful Times this morning after not listening to it for a few weeks and I have to

say Owl City is absolutely en pointe. I downloaded it a couple of weeks ago and ever since I've been in love. My friend wondered aloud to me how on earth he manages to perfectly sum up emotions. I have no idea, but I'm in full support of it, and I'd like it to continue as long as possible. Amazing, truly. (Also, I'm loving Hall of Fame by Glee Cast. It's been in my head all day. The Glee Cast for sure does beautiful, amazing covers.)

I also started the TV show LOST. (Yeah, I know, I know, I'm behind on the times.) Can I just say wow??? Four episodes in and I'm loving it. The characterization is amazing--A+. It's still trying to get on its feet and it's a fledgling show in many ways, but I find myself wondering how on earth the show can only be in its first season and still be this spot-on. Seriously? I love it. (I don't really get into Jack yet. Kate isn't my favorite, but I am intrigued by where her plotline is going. To be honest though, I care most about the side characters, like Claire, Boone, Shannon, Sawyer... CHARLIE. AND SAYID. DEAR SAYID. They're all great. But seriously? What is this giant monster thing? And why is my brother in season 2 already and he still doesn't know what it is?! Also what will happen when they run out of clothes? And food? Will this involve them building a jungle apartment complex? I CAN DREAM.)

Speaking of that, it would make my life if they lived in the forest like Robin Hood did. Living in the forest has always been my jam. Forests, actually, have just always been my thing. Give me the woods and the trees and the mountain air. I especially love forests with creeks or some sort of water in them. One time I visited a lake with a little stream. One of the most peaceful things I've ever experienced. I even used it as my bio photo for a while. (Ehehe. Old blog posts. Erghhhhh.)

I've been racking my brain trying to think of something profound to end this post with, but... eh. I'll just leave you with this scene that my friends and I were laughing over last night. Finding Nemo is the best, am I right? My friends say I'm Gill. I'm inclined to agree. (I also identify with Ron Swanson, the sole reason I started watching Parks and Rec, and one of my favorite characters to ever character. He never fails to make me laugh.)
