The End of All Things

Thursday, May 26, 2011 6
The End of All Things
I got a Tumblr.

Yes, you can blame Georgie Penn for this. No, actually, maybe you should blame Fin. They both got me started... and I am hooked.
That feeling when your best friend’s best friend convinces her to try out Tumblr, and therefore, you jump on the bandwagon and get that gut feeling that you like it. Yeah… {via}
When I was going to sign up, I couldn't come up with anything. Then this quote entered my mind...
"I’m glad you’re here with me, Sam… here, at the end of all things."
-Frodo Baggins

Thus, my Tumblr blog was titled, The End of All Things.

At first it was named that on a whim. Then, I got to thinking. Isn't it really profound? I love random bursts of profundity. That's where the name for this blog came from, and I love it still to this day, 5 years later. I seriously think God names my blogs for me. ;)
My tumblr blog is called The End of All Things. Yes, I know… it’s morbid. When I was naming my tumblr blog, this quote popped into my head as random as could be…

“I’m glad you’re here with me, Sam… here, at the end of all things.”
-Frodo Baggins

It seems really morbid. Until I got to thinking… the end of all things. Frodo says they’re at the end, but they’re not really. After that, they go on to live happy lives. So it’s not the end.

It’s only the beginning.

And if hobbits find the end of all things, can’t we? {via}
And with that, I leave you with a relevant post, also from my tumblr, regarding a certain Mr. Gavin Gray.

Dear Gavin Gray,

First off, I love how you’re turning out. You’re an awesome character and you totally rock. I can’t believe you even came from my own brain. Which brings up a question… did you really come from my brain? If not, I must ask, because I’ve been wondering…

Where the heck did you come from??

Sincerely,

-Your Author {via}

Beautiful People: Gavin Gray

Beautiful People: Gavin Gray
If you don't know what Beautiful People is, click here
(Even if this is your first month doing Beautiful People, feel free to jump in at any time!)

For this month's Beautiful People, I considered using Ben Carter from Reese's Pieces, or Talryn from one of my fantasy novels. But then things changed. A couple of days ago, a character entered my mind, and refused to go away. So I slapped him together with Chasiel and Torin, who occupy my currently unnamed and partially started fantasy novel. Then I realized that I barely know him, so what better way to fix that than with Beautiful People?

Guys, meet Gavin Gray. (He goes by Gray, but the Gavin part just sounded awesome.)

1. What type of laugh does he/she have?
A loud, hearty one that comes about easily.

2. Who is his/her best friend?
He has lots of friends, but none that he can consider a best friend. (Eventually, my MC named Chasiel will become his best friend, methinks.)

3. What is his/her family like?
They live far away, if they're alive at all. They're very supportive, but Gray is at the age where he's out on his own, so he doesn't see them much.

4. Is he/she a Christian, or will he/she eventually find Jesus?
Gray is in a novel that's VERY much a work in progress, so I'm not sure if there is a God character. However, if there is, Gray will definitely come to find Him. :P

5. Does he/she believe in fairies?
In a way, yes.

6. Does he/she like hedgehogs?
I don't know if Gray has ever encountered one, but if he did, he'd probably laugh outright. :P

7. Favorite kind of weather?
Sunny and warm.

8. Does he/she have a good sense of humor? If so what kind? (Slapstick, wit, sarcasm, etc.?)
Man, I picked the best character to do for this. Gray has the BEST sense of humor. Everything is one big joke to him, and it takes a lot to get him down. He's very sarcastic and witty and can joke a little too much, but he laughs a lot.

9. How did he/she do in school, or any kind of education they might have had.
He was apprenticed by a blacksmith and did very well. He ended up working in the King's stables, and is one of the best blacksmiths in the land. I'd say he did pretty well, don't you? :P

10. Any strange hobbies?
Reading. He's unlike most men of that time period in that he reads avidly.

After answering all these questions, I feel like I know Gray so much better now, and I even came up with some of my plot for my novel. *grins mysteriously* Who knew Beautiful People could help me figure out my own character?

...Yeah, sometimes things still surprise me. :P

My dear Frodo bloggers. Hobbits characters really are amazing creatures. You can learn all there is to know about their ways in a month, and yet after a hundred years few days they can still surprise you.

(Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings movies, slightly edited. :P)

A Lonely Streetlight

A Lonely Streetlight
I'm the kind of girl that is intrigued by those kids walking down the street at 9 pm, lit by a lonely streetlight. Are they really up to no good? Or are they just misunderstood?

I took the plunge
Oh, hello there. Do you notice anything, say... different about this site?

Chances are, you do. I did a totally new design over the past few days, and I decided to put it up tonight.

So, I took the plunge.

After:

I'm still working out a few kinks, but I couldn't wait before putting it up. Thoughts?

Beautiful People - May/June Edition

Wednesday, May 18, 2011 1
Beautiful People - May/June Edition

Well, folks, it's that time again! The time where we ask you questions about your beautiful people - your characters - and you get to answer.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about... well, that's okay! For all the details, check out this post.

In her post, Georgie made some good points that I've been meaning to make as well, so I'm just going to echo them. Firstly, if you don't know the answer to a question, think about it. That's what these questions are made for: to make you think and develop your character better. Secondly, if you are a fantasy writer and a particular question doesn't exactly fit a particular setting, try to adapt it so it will. Again, these questions are supposed to be challenging! :D

Speaking of questions, this month's questions were submitted by Lily, Inna, and iGirl. Thanks so much! :D

1. What type of laugh does he/she have?
2. Who is his/her best friend?
3. What is his/her family like?
4. Is he/she a Christian, or will he/she eventually find Jesus?
5. Does he/she believe in fairies?
6. Does he/she like hedgehogs?
7. Favorite kind of weather?
8. Does he/she have a good sense of humor? If so what kind? (Slapstick, wit, sarcasm, etc.?)
9. How did he/she do in school, or any kind of education they might have had.
10. Any strange hobbies?

Ready, set, post! (And don't forget to sign the linky!) My post will be up later this week. :)

Have you ever been to Owl City?

Tuesday, May 17, 2011 3
Have you ever been to Owl City?
I have.

Oh, not personally of course. Not physically, but deep inside my mind, I have.

It's a place called imagination.

I am floating away / lost in a silent ballet (On the Wing)

One time, I was babysitting a dear three-year-old whom my family has known since birth. She was wearing an owl shirt, and so I asked her,

"Have you ever been to Owl City?"

She said yes. She said it was the place where all the owls hang out. It was located in her room, and it was dark. Someplace magical.

Pour me a heavy dose of atmosphere. (Vanilla Twilight)

I figured out that I could go there, too.

My friends and I have bonded over Owl City. My friend Pip pre-ordered me All Things Bright and Beautiful. I've shared with my blog friends his song that reminds me my hope is in Christ alone. My friend Bri and I are going to write a story about being in a strawberry avalanche (and going in a cold hot air balloon with Matthew Thiessen). Even Ashley and I have a book character based off of Adam Young. And this weekend, I had a conversation with two dear friends that consisted entirely of Owl City song titles. It made my night.

It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep. (Fireflies)

Guys, meet Malkah @ Snow After Fire & Sweeet (aka Christina) @ Broken Love - two awesome people from the NarniaWeb forums whom I've had the privilege of getting to know (and you should definitely follow them). A simple conversation in which we plotted our group story turned into, well.. this. I hope you enjoy. (And by the way, an alias of mine is Mountie, short for MountainFireflower. :p)

Me: *lives in Owl City*
Sweeet: forgot. She really lives in Owl City.
malkah: is also a citizen of Owl City.
Me: I live in a hot air balloon in the alligator sky during vanilla twilight
Sweeet: Oh, I live down in the Saltwater Room.
Sweeet: On Umbrella Beach?
malkah: Well, I turned the corner one day, and Hello, there was Seattle. So I'm living here for awhile.
Me: XD LOL! I see fireflies on a daily basis
Sweeet: Sounds great, Mal. I'll have to visit you sometimes soon.
malkah: May I visit you both? XD
Sweeet: Sometimes all the lights look like the galaxies...
Me: Of course, Mal.
Sweeet: They make me feel like a Deer in the Headlights.
Sweeet: You may, of course!
Sweeet: You can come to my graduation party!
Me: Have you girls ever seen a meteor shower? XD
Me: *wishes she could actually come to Sweeet's graduation party*
Sweeet: Sometimes I think that Adam Young made these song names so we could be all witty like them.
malkah: I've never been to a graduation party in a saltwater room!  *will be there*
Sweeet Why yes, I have! I had to look all the way up To the Sky.
Sweeet: Perfect, Mal!
malkah: I haven't, Mountie, but there was a Strawberry Avalanche awhile back, so we've been rather buried.
Sweeet: Well, Mountie, Dreams Don't Turn to Dust, so your dream of visiting'll stay alive...
Me: Ouch, Mal, that must've been painful!
Sweeet: Oh, heavens!
Me: Yes, I don't need a telescope to see that there's hope, and that makes me feel brave XD
Sweeet: Like when you have Dental Care?
Me: Mal, at least you didn't get caught in a Tidal Wave like I did.
malkah: Youch, Mountie. That sounds even worse than being stuck in a Cave In.
Sweeet: And the tidal wave is only the Tip of the Iceberg.
Sweeet: And the Cave In is too.
malkah: XDD
Sweeet: If My Heart Was a House, you'd already have visited me.
Me: Hehe!
malkah: (This is an epic conversation.  )
Me: XD
Sweeet: This is so awesome.
Me: (I know. Almost blog-worthy. XD)
Me: I'm going to go On The Wing and say that you're Adam Young fans as much as I am
Sweeet: Nah, we're just part of The Real World.
malkah: But thankfully, no Owl City fan ever has to sing a Lonely Lullaby.
Sweeet: Yes, because we've got Angels like Adam Young to sing to us.
Me: About All Things Bright and Beautiful
Sweeet: Yes, well, this conversation is in all of those Rainbow Veins.
Sweeet: is cheating and looking up names.
malkah: is too.
Sweeet: This Is The Future: Mountie and I going to Owatonna. Care to come, Mal? There isn't much Air Traffic.
Me: XDDD
malkah: I'd love to come!  When are you leaving? In the Vanilla Twilight or do I need to be an Early Birdie?
Sweeet: Well, you could be The Bird and we'll be the Worm.
Me: (NO fair, I was gonna do that, Sweeet! XD)
Sweeet: Hahahaha!
malkah: Lol! XDDDD
Sweeet: (Sorry, Mountie!)
Sweeet: I have to go to bed and leave this awesomeness.
Sweeet: Rather, Awesomeness.
malkah: That could work, Sweeet. I'll Meet You There.
Sweeet: So, goodnight!
Me: Aw. Will we see you again, in Peppermint Winter? XD
Sweeet: Perfect, Mal! Perhaps we'll meet again on January 28, 2986.
Sweeet: 1986*
Sweeet: Fail.
Me: Hahaha!
Sweeet: If we could do something Kamikaze like that.
malkah: Aww, g'night Sweeet! Sleep well, and may your dreams be Enchanted!
Me: And dream Of June!
Sweeet: And I'll leave it at that.
(20:45:14) sweeetlilgurlie: I love you guys.
(20:45:19) sweeetlilgurlie: Have sweet dreams!
(20:45:31) sweeetlilgurlie sparkles out.

So after Sweeet left, this is what happened...

Me: Aw, what a great West Coast Friendship.
malkah: I know. We fit like The Honey and the Bee.
Me: It makes me feel like a Panda Bear xD
malkah: Or like I'm Swimming in Miami.
malkah: (We're running out of titles. XD )
Me: (LOL! Yes. )
Me: It's like The Technicolor Phase!
malkah: And just as much fun as being a Sky Diver!
Me: Or running down The Airway!
malkah: Or having a Super Honeymoon!
Me: On a Designer Skyline!
malkah: In Dear Vienna!
MountainFireflower: Beneath Fuzzy Blue Lights!

That's about it, but the conversation just kept going, and going, until we ran out of Owl City song titles. It was amazing.

Sweeet and I have a plan of going to Owatonna someday and buying choco tacos to share with Adam Young. Just fyi. We'll have to blog about it when we get there. ;) Because we will, I'm sure of it. Dreams don't turn to dust. :P

Where was I, when the rockets came to life, and carried you away, into the alligator sky? (Alligator Sky)

Speaking of Owl City, I am a fan of his new music video.

And I really think he should sell those spacesuits in his online store. (So does Georgie. It was her idea. Adam Young, are you reading this?)

Also, Owl City fans, click here. And even if you aren't, do it. Because it's shocking and cool all at the same time.

Thank you for putting up with this fangurlie-ish post. Regular posting shall resume soonish.

"i thought you fell off the face of the earth..."

"i thought you fell off the face of the earth..."
iGirl's comment on my last post made me realize that I kind of went MIA in the blogging world. No, I didn't fall off the face of the earth, and no, the internet did not eat me (though it tried to). And in fact, I was thinking of posting tonight, if only I wasn't so tired and needed to get off soon. So, this is just a public notice letting you know that I didn't die, I'm just editing my novel. (And Georgie's if you want to get technical.)

Heh. Heh. Wish me luck! :P

(A more substantial post will be coming soon, about Owl City and Owatonna and choco tacos and alligator skies. And stuff like that.)

Awkwardly Awesome

Awkwardly Awesome
Awkward:

Tearing up listening to Damian McGinty's voice.

Twisting your ankle in front of a lady you know and starting to cry.

Using the Wii to swordfight to help you blow off some steam and ending up hurting your arm because you do it so much.

Wanting to write a blog post but not being able to because Blogger won't load.

Realizing you've had the same pair of flip-flops for four or five years and still wear them.

Also realizing you've had the same pair of monkey pajama pants for four or five years and still wear them.

Copying other bloggers' posts.

Realizing that your sunglasses have been on top of your head for the whole afternoon.

Walking outside just so you can see the yellow ice cream truck, then running back inside because you don't want the ice cream man to see you.

Not knowing where the awkward/awesome meme originated. (Someone? Help?)

Having a guy hold the door open for you at Chipotle.

Awesome:

Damian McGinty's voice. And Keith Harkin's voice.

Having a Saturday afternoon completely to yourself.

Spending time with your grandma and mom for Mother's Day.

Getting unexpected phone calls.

Writing like there's no tomorrow... and like your brain doesn't exist.

Chipotle. 'Nuff said.

Playing the longest game of GoFish ever with your sister.

Making sets on Polyvore.

This Polyvore set that is very, very Avary-ish.

Owl City. Again, 'nuff said.

Having inspiration return.

Watching your sister name her caterpillars Tracy, Annabelle, and Toby.

Laughing your head off at Ice Age 3.

Going barefoot because it's finally warm enough.

Wearing those same flip-flops you got four or five years ago to Chipotle.

Having a guy hold the door open for you at Chipotle.

I'm... tired.

Tuesday, May 03, 2011 7
I'm... tired.

It's been a long day. My family was definitely under attack today. And I'm exhausted.

My chronic pain has been really bad this past week. I have something called TMJ which makes it hard to chew. So, I'm considering going on a diet of milkshakes and smoothies.

I didn't get much sleep last night due to nightmares about lions eating my head. No joke.

And I was really angry this evening because of everything. Everything was going wrong. Nothing was working out.

I know God is faithful. He's with me.

Now here's to a better day tomorrow! And three cheers for fragmented blog posts that make NO sense! :D
